Patience is Related to Joy

Patience is Related to Joy

Every Monday, I’ll post about discovering genuine hope and authentic answers for living a healthy life. — Quick. Name as many impatient people as you can think of. Ready! Go! …… Okay. Stop. Could you have kept going forever and ever? Was your name on the list? It’s much easier to name impatient people than it is to name patient ones. Yellow light runners. Complainers in the slow line at the cash register. Complainers in any line. Whiners who don’t want to wait their turn. People telling their computer to “hurry up” as if it will help. Children not wanting to answer parents’ questions about their day because there’s something else to do. Judging someone’s prayer request as taking too … [Read more...]

Security Is Best Placed Among The Trustworthy

Every Monday, I’ll post about discovering genuine hope and authentic answers for living a healthy life. — Fifty. Thirty-seven. Two more. Another one! A total of 90. My parents’ nativity was displayed on the built-in buffet at the end of the dining room every December until they moved. Made in Italy, they purchased it early in their marriage. I have fond memories of it. I now own it. It’s okay to like and appreciate things. It’s dangerous and unhealthy to place security in our things. In 1994, I was privileged to take my first trip overseas. In Manila, I spoke at a large convention for Christian school teachers and then to teachers at a boarding school for missionary children. On a day off, the group … [Read more...]

Four More Awakening Strategies for Multiple Intelligences

Four More Awakening Strategies for Multiple Intelligences

Every Wednesday, I’ll post about multiple intelligences so we can better understand children and why they do what they do. — As I wrote about last Wednesday, in Four Awakening Strategies for Multiple Intelligences, all of us are born with the capacity to develop eight intelligences. Our Creator generously creates us with each, but relies on parents and others to awaken each part of the brain in children. The earlier they’re awakened, the better. It’s more likely that they’ll become strengths. Creating “crystallizing experiences” to spark the birth of intelligences is a privilege. The first four ways of doing this that I explained were creating new experiences, attending cultural events, going exploring, and engaging … [Read more...]

Four Awakening Strategies for Multiple Intelligences

Four Awakening Strategies for Multiple Intelligences

Every Wednesday, I’ll post about multiple intelligences so we can better understand children and why they do what they do. — Multiple intelligences is a strength-based way of looking at children, teens, and even adults. That’s one reason I enjoy teaching the Model. All of us are born with a capacity to develop all eight smarts. Although it’s never too late to awaken them, the earlier they’re awakened, the better. It’s a greater likelihood they’ll develop as strengths. Let me share four awakening strategies, in no particular order. We want to create “crystallizing experiences,” a term coined by Dr. Thomas Armstrong. These are turning points that spark the birth of an intelligence. Next Wednesday, I’ll share … [Read more...]

The Most Music-Smart Generation Ever

The Most Music-Smart Generation Ever

Every Wednesday, I’ll post about multiple intelligences so we can better understand children and why they do what they do. --- If intelligences were based on interest alone, it would be safe to say that today’s young adults and teens may be the most music-smart generation ever. This is largely due to the iPod. It was invented in 2001 and iTunes was voted the invention of the year just two years later. Because music has always been readily accessible, this generation highly values it. They enjoy it. They prioritize it. They know it. But, when considering intelligences, ability must be factored in. Because of the quantity and variety of music on iTunes, bands on YouTube, and television shows they watch like American Idol, … [Read more...]

Project Based Learning Works for Millennials

Project Based Learning Works for Millennials

We’ve decided here at Celebrate Kids, Inc., that there’s something more important than what methods teachers use and what skills they’re teaching. Yes, we’re excited about helping teachers and students understand, embrace, and use 21st-Century skills. We’re fans of authentic tasks and see benefits of project-based learning, especially when it starts with young children and they come to expect some of their learning and practicing of content and skills to be embedded in projects. This means they gain character qualities and skills necessary for successful project-based learning early on. But, what’s more important? Teachers, administrators, parents, and others who care about young people must understand who they’re teaching. … [Read more...]
