Hello. I’m glad you found my new blog. As the founder and president of Celebrate Kids, Inc., (www.CelebrateKids.com) I’m excited to begin this venture with you! I’m looking forward to interacting with you by answering your questions about children, teens, parenting, and teaching.

I know I’ll benefit from learning from you as you submit questions and comments. Your questions tell me what’s important and what you want to know. That helps me know what to write about and teach about. Your comments will help me know how appropriate you believe my insights are.

    To the future…

Dear Dr. Koch, I really enjoyed your book “How Am I Smart” and value your educated and godly opinion. While my husband and I decided a long time ago not to celebrate halloween, we are finding it difficult to explain our stance to our 5 year old son. He is in school this year, so he is getting a very different message than we have sent him about this day. We firmly believe we are doing the right thing by not celebrating, but don’t want our kids to feel like they are missing out on something because of our faith. We sent out an email survey to our church leaders and friends who share the same faith as us to gather ideas of others who have been in our position. As someone who is raising kids in a God-honoring way, I am interested in your response to these survey questions.

      1) What does your family do to celebrate halloween and why?

      2) What is your interpretation on the origins of halloween traditions and their relationship to halloween as our culture views it today?

      3) From a scriptural perspective, how do you explain halloween rituals and
      traditions to your children?

Dr. Kathy, it was a pleasure and a privilege meeting you at the ACSI convention in Orlando. Your morning session on facilitating class discussions and critical thinking was so enlightening and empowering that I decided NOT to use my free pass to Universal Studios so that I could attend your afternoon session instead. I am SO glad I made that choice! Although I’ve been familiar with Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences for many years, you brought it to life for me in a new way, and the Christian perspective you have added to this theory gave me “God-bumps.” I saw myself and my children in several of your descriptions. The week my sons and I spent together upon my arrival at home was so different from other days–I told them about your talk and about their “smarts” and they really responded positively. Thank you so much for all you are doing!
