Every Friday, I’ll post thought provoking discussion starters.

Is representing ideas in pictures easy or hard for you? Some people do it naturally, without even thinking about it. The way I describe it is pictures just jump into their head. For some people, like me, words do the jumping.
For a new product we’re creating at Celebrate Kids, Inc., we’d like a picture to represent five different important concepts. Maybe you can help us. You’ll recognize these as the five core needs if you read my blog on Mondays.
What picture would you choose to represent
Security?
Identity?
Belonging?
Purpose?
Competence?
I’d love to know. Please comment below.

I will share the immediate picture that pops into my head. As of this comment I haven’t even tried meditating on it yet so here goes:
Security – Close up of a police badge on a tan uniform
Identity – A person honestly looking into a mirror
Belonging – Friends at dinner laughing
Purpose – A teen sitting with both parents looking at college brochures
Competence – A woman in business attire holding report of some kind close, with pen in hand and a smile on her face.
Thanks so much, Randy. I appreciate your responses. It’s not going to be easy to choose just one picture for each need for what we’re creating, but we must.
I don’t have a picture in my head for each one, but the one that popped out to me was “belonging”. A picture of belonging to me is mixed race families that God created through foster care and/or adoption. I know that I am a little biased to that one lol, but it is such a great picture of what it means to belong to someone.
Jeralee,
I love your bias, my dear! You and Joshua are doing “belonging” well.
Security- I see a lighthouse up on a cliff it isn’t dark and I am looking at it from a boat
Identity- a flower bouquet with one flower of a different color and variety than the others
Belonging- I see tetris with all the shapes fitting together and one of those fashion drawings with the outfit and the accessories all circling it
Purpose- I see a huge bridge that is not pretty with wires that makes it look amazing. This one is like over a lake and it is not long but it is sturdy you know it will be safe as you cross it.
Competence-I see a woman with her arms crossed in front of a building downtown. she has a smug look on her face. I also see a soldier in fatigues and he is running into the to ocean and you don’t know why he is running into the waves but you know whatever the reason he will be successful.
Jayna,
Thanks so much! Excellent thoughts/pictures. I appreciate your help. I hope your ministry is going super well!
Part of my prayer to the LORD is that “I belong to You.” That fills my chest up with my belonging to HIM and it feels soooooo good!
