On the drive home from the school hosting our conference, we saw a camel cross the road. I wish I had a picture to show you! Can you picture a huge camel with a rider, much like you’d expect on a horse? He was riding way up on his neck because the camel’s back was covered with lots of stuff – household things, I think. All of that was covered with a blanket made of straw. He just crossed the road along with the cars and motorbikes!

    What else did I see?

    ·        These adorable children eager to have their picture taken. (See below.)

    ·        Goats covering a dump eating what they could enjoy. It was in the middle of the city!

    ·        A woman walking gracefully with her hands to her side. What was unusual about that, you ask? A bowl of about 20 full bottles of water was on her head. And, she wasn’t holding on to it. What posture and poise!

    ·        Laundry drying on the bridge over the Niger River.  (People regularly do their laundry in the river and dry it on the bridge. Because it’s 90 here and the humidity is in the single digits, it dries fast.)

    ·        Colorful small and large lizards running everywhere. I need to get a picture for my friend, Matt!

I’m definitely not in America any more! No, I’m in Niamey, Niger. It’s the capital city of almost 2 million people in this northwest African country. I’m looking forward to each remaining day.

Come back to the blog for more later…
